The dangers of eating out.

I love eating out. I love going to a restaurant and hanging out with friends and family. I love the food I get at those places. Problem is, most of the food at most of the restaurants is not very good for me. In fact, most of it is very bad for me. I’ve known this for some time, but it’s really starting to sink in now that I am keeping a close check on my nutritional intake with My Fitness Pal. I am sort of scared to go out to eat now. What in the world am I supposed to eat there? Most of the food is very high in calories, fat, and sodium. Even when the food is low-calorie and fat, the sodium content is usually very high. There are a few times you can find food that is low in all the bad stuff, but it’s either not very good, or it is insanely small and not very filling.

So, give me suggestions from your experience. What are some places that offer good, healthy, and filling options? I need some ideas because it hit me last night that with my eating habits changing, this was one area that I really need to focus on.

  1. I can’t help here. I always try to find a place with nutritional information on the web, but once I get to the restaurant the evil side of my brain kicks in most of the time and orders something I should not be eating.

Thus, I’ve been a semi-hermit for the duration of my diet. I just go out about once a month with friends and also go out for birthdays or holidays.

Good luck sticking to healthy choices and once again just try looking for restaurants that post nutritional information, then DO NOT LOOK at the menu when you actually get there. Just pick what you will order at home and stick with it. I know easier said then done.

  2. That sounds like a good plan. The problem comes when I have not made plans to eat out and then at the last minute, friends want to go get a bite to eat. I can’t pre-plan my meal if that happens. That’s ok though, those times will be rare and I can still make good choices at the last second.
